MICROCHIP YOUR PET AT HOME
Sadly many pets are lost or stolen every year so ensuring your pet is microchipped is the best way to ensure you can be reunited with your pet quickly. Since April 2016 it became a legal requirement for all puppies and dogs to be microchipped before they leave the breeder at 8 weeks old. Failure to comply with the legislation can result in a fine of up to £500 per puppy.
Our fully trained microchip implanters are trained to a national standard just like vets or vet nurses. We offer a microchipping service at our Royal Wootton Bassett grooming salon or are able to offer a mobile microchipping service within Swindon and surrounding areas for dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and rabbits.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does microchipping cause discomfort?
Microchipping is a similar procedure to a vaccination. Most pets won't notice it, however some pets may experience a little discomfort.
How do I update my pet's microchip details or transfer ownership?
At the time of implant, you'll be given your pet's unique microchip number and be told which database the microchip will be registered on. You'll need to contact the microchip database directly to update your contact details or transfer to a new owner. Depending on which database the microchip is registered with, there may be a surcharge for updating your details.
Can the microchip fail or move around?
Yes, although this is very rare. We recommend having your pet's microchip scanned every vet visit to ensure the microchip is still responding and in the correct place.
How long will the microchip last?
The microchip will usually last a lifetime, although we do recommend that you check it's still responding at every vet visit. Depending on which database the microchip is registered with, there may be a surcharge for updating your details or the option to upgrade to a premium account.
How does a microchip help my pet get home?
If you pet is found straying, it will usually be scanned by an animal rescue, vet or dog warden which will then reveal your pet's microchip number on the scanner. The vet will then contact the database to find out your contact details by entering in your microchip number. It's that simple!
